um.... Help?
As many of you know, Summerland is a non profit but non registered animal sanctuary. (We choose not to deal with the government because of the miles of red tape involved. You can certainly understand, I know) Basically Summerland is the end of the "adoption" line for many critters in need. Whether too old, too ugly or too big, we take the pets that have been abandoned or abused and give them a permanent, safe home. This includes Easter pets (rabbits, chicks and ducklings suffer at this holiday), XMas puppies and kittens plus "fad" pets.... pygmy goats, pot bellied pigs, rats, iguanas and others. Illness in a family or moving also displaces pets, and in a small county with few resources this is where they go. We love them and find homes for those we can, keeping the rest to while their days in the woods and fields here at Summerland and MooseLand  (our new installation across the road.... we're expanding!).

In light of the recent addition of 22 Chihuahuas, bringing the total of dogs living here at an all time high of 60+, an increase in feed costs and land taxes (from $97 to $698, see my Bitch section for why... grr), and a drop in the economy, Summerland Animal Sanctuary is in trouble. Several of our friends have long suggested that we take in donations, but we always managed. Now it seems that momentarily at least, we can't manage so much at once. It is therefore with great humbleness we turn to all our friends who've offered us so much encouragement and love and ask if perhaps you can help us, just a little, in any way you can.

Money, unfortunately, is what we need most, and would deeply appreciate any amount offered. We've even set up a Paypal account specifically for donations if you find it in yourself (and budget) to do so. But please don't think it's the only way to help. Summerland needs many items, and would accept them gladly, new or used. Things of particular value are wood (for building housing), fencing/gating supplies, animal carriers or houses, medical supplies (needles, bandages, antibiotics, herbals, etc), water bottles, small animal cages or aquariums, feed bowls, and if you're in the area (email me for details) physical labour. It does involve hard work and lots of poop, but we're game if you are!

In any case, we ask for any assistance you can offer, even if it's well wishes. We will coninue to assist animals in need, but do need resources to maintain quality in our services. We thank you in advance for anything you wing our way!

Don't give pets for presents unless you know they'll be provided for. Chicks and ducklings are killed by the thousands by well meaning kids every Easter. These guys are the lucky ones!
