Ah. I run a shelter. Not a homeless shelter, don't let Bardok fool you. I run an animal shelter. I currently only take in special cases, as we are quite full, but we seldom turn down anyone. Specifically we tend to receive abandoned Easter rabbits and birds plus previously owned animals who have outlived their welcome, generally dogs and cats, but also the occasional rodent or reptile or "fad" pets like pot bellied pigs and pygmy goats. It's rather hard to find homes for older animals, so generally once they're here, they've hit the end of the trail. I don't put down any animals unless they are so gravely ill I believe they may be suffering. All feed, vet care and medicine comes directly from my pocket, assitance from my spiffy sister Cocomuffin (who also helps with the work when I need her as well as her hubby is an excellent fence pulling and swine catcher) or CD sales. I do not accept government money, nor do I suggest you do if you happen to run a safe haven. I'll not have anyone telling me who to adopt to whom or how to house my animals. I have a better idea of their needs than any bureaucrat. My dog pens are 15' x 50', rather than the industry standard of 6' x 6' (and worse, crating has become popular. You live in a box and see how you like it, puppy mill owners.... grrr). Every animal has a shelter of some sort. My cats free range, even though the chances of a coyote or hawk stealing off with one is a true threat. Better they live free and take their chances. Cats die in pens. They lose their heart. The farm is called Summerland, after the Celtic afterlife. It's 12 acres of field and woods, perfect for my troops to live in relative safety. At the moment there are 20 pygmy goats, 3 Barbados sheep, a flock of ducks, chickens, geese, turkeys and Guinea hens, 40 odd rabbits, cages of rats, Guinea pigs, voles, gerbils, mice and hamsters, 13 turtles rescued from Texas highways (most recovering from assorted injuries), almost 60 dogs, 30 odd cats, 22 pot bellied pigs (some of whom desperately need homes! Please take them! I can't afford them much longer), mum's cockateils, parakeets, finches, a salamander who messed with the wrong cat, a frog who happened by, my iguana Baata and possibly more I forgot. Numbers change daily, that's today's tally. But that's enough to give you a good idea. Animal-wise. I shan't disclose the people facts. One big happy. So, below are pictures of the people who are hoping lots of doujinshi sell, so I can keep paying the $500 plus a month it costs to feed them. Mainly though, I want to show off my babies. Yes. I am a hippy of sorts. I hug trees and hate malls. I like to slug people, though. Does that help even me out? Sue me. What could it get you? A pig. Make it two.
